Global Database on Protected Area Management Effectiveness (GD-PAME)

The Global Database on Protected Area Management Effectiveness (GD-PAME) is the most comprehensive global database of management effectiveness assessments for protected areas (PAME). It indicates if a protected area documented in the World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA) has been assessed. The GD-PAME is a searchable database that includes assessments submitted by a wide range of governmental and non-governmental organizations to UNEP-WCMC, and is updated on a monthly basis.

IUCN PAPACO Website with RAPPAM, METT and EoH Assessments in Africa

The IUCN Programme on African Protected Areas & Conservation (PAPACO) has, over the years, supported many evaluations of protected area management effectiveness (PAME) in Africa, with a focus on Central and Western Africa. These evaluations were carried out at different levels - site level, national level or regional level - and using different methodologies. These methodologies included the Rapid Assessment and Prioritization of Protected Area Management (RAPPAM), the Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) and the Enhancing our Heritage (EoH) Toolkit.

The IUCN PAPACO website has a dedicated section where the RAPPAM, METT and EoH evaluations are available:

English: https://papaco.org/evaliations-of-pas/
French: https://papaco.org/fr/evaluations/

More information about the different PAME methodologies is available here: https://rris.biopama.org/pame/tools

Zoning Plan (2013-2018), Negril Marine Park, Jamaica

The Negril Marine Park was legally established under the Negril Marine Park Order by the Government of Jamaica in 1998. It was officially designated on March 4, 1998 and covers an area of approximately 160 km2. The coastal boundary is approximately 33km and extends from Davis Cove, Hanover in the north to St. John’s Point, Westmoreland in the south. Under European Union funding, a zoning plan for the NMP was developed in 1998 by the NCRPS through a series of consultations with governmental and non-governmental entities, users, and members of the community. In 2008 however, the decision was taken by the Natural Resources Conservation Authority to undertake the revision of this zoning plan towards its finalization and gazetting. The end result of this process is a five year (2013-2018) zoning plan which seeks to realize the objectives of ensuring the sustainable use of the natural resources, promoting the safety of users and compliance with applicable laws and regulations within the Marine Park.
